The Mausoleum of Hadrian

After meeting your Private Guide, get ready to start your tour exploring all 5 levels of the Castel Sant'Angelo and its many transformations during the years. The initial use of the outstanding monument was a Mausoleum for the Roman Emperor Hadrian and his loved ones. The Mausoleum was completely decorated, both inside and out, and at the very top was a roof garden beautifully decorated with golden statues. Your passionate guide will soon leave you speechless by illustrating how the Mausoleum soon became a papal fortress and the myth of the appearance of Archangel Micheal. Explore the lower rooms, were prisoners used to be kept and the court were executions used to take place, including Giordano Bruno's. Going up the spiral staircase you will visit the Papal residence's rooms and feel the complete difference from those how lay in the lower and colder part. The Papal rooms were fully decorated with paintings and renaissance interiors that will leave you completely stunned. Come across the real reason why this fortress was so important and the secret passage escape, also known as Passetto Del Borgo. Your private guide will take you to the highest point of the Castle were the bronze statue of Micheal the Arcangel stands. You will be shocked by the amazing view from the terrace, overlooking St.Peter's Basilica and also the center of Rome.

An Aperitif with a view!

To top of your Private Tour, get the chance to have a typical Italian Aperitivo overlooking the Tiber River and Rome. From there you will be able to spend the time that you wish with your loved ones and take amazing pictures from the arches standing 10 feet tall. It could be an Italian prosecco or wine or simply just a fizzy drink sit down, relax and get the best of an Italian aperitive after your private walking tour.
